about

The Ring of power was created by an evil creature called Sauron to control and rule all the free people of middle earth. A fellowship comprised of Gandalf the wizard, some hobbits and some men, an elf and a dwarf set off on their quest to destroy it in the fire of Mount Doom in the heart of the enemy land of Mordor.

Compositional notes. This one is in 7/4 which gives it a slightly restless and uneasy quality due to the missing beat. The melody rises and rises throughout the song, representing the climb up the snowy and forbidding pass of Caradhras and other peaks on their journey.

lyrics

The road must be trod, but it will be very hard. And neither strength nor wisdom will carry us far upon it. This quest may be attempted by the weak with as much hope as the strong.
Few can foresee whither their road will lead them, till they come to its end.’
