This is a dark piece meant to represent the battle of good and evil. You can hear this in the way the major and the minor chords do battle through the music but in the end the piece resolves on a tentative D major chord. I hear this as “the battle is won but the struggle goes on”…

Paul Bielatowicz plays that insane solo on the outro of the songs. I felt the aggressive and virtuosic style of his playing would be perfect for this song. He and I played in bands together when we were learning guitar. He went on to bigger and better things and kindly took time out of touring the world with Carl Palmer to record the solo.
