Composition notes (Dave)
In Tolkien’s legendarium, the woods of Lothlorien were the realm of Galadriel, the immortal Queen elf. Rumours were that when people went in to those woods they never returned. Many avoided the woods out of fear. However, if they had been brave enough to venture outside their comfort zone, they would have learned that it was not death that awaited them, it was wonder and a desire to never leave.

I wrote this otherworldly melody on piano and I thought that to really capture the spontaneous magic feeling you get when you enter the magical woods, I needed to get Dave Bainbridge to use the melody to inspire an improvised piano composition. He did 4 takes, all of them were wonderful, this was take 4. I find it astonishing that he can improvise music like this!

You are stepping outside of your comfort zone. You are taking your first steps into a new adventure. You see the light flickering through the trees. Drops of water glisten and fall from the leaves like stars in the morning sun. The wind blows through the trees. You feel wonder, and peace and restoration. The fear that was holding you back fades. You feel truly alive. Why can’t you live forever in this moment?
