The story of this tune is a classic example of how the three of us write music together.

Originally, it was a beautiful, fairly simple tune that Dan wrote inspired by a chapter title from Tolkien's book :The Hobbit. Someone suggested we played it as a half-time shuffle. As a drummer I was excited, because I’ve always wanted to record something akin to Toto’s Rosanna on drums. But Dave wanted to make the tune more interesting.

We turned up at his basement studio to find that he’d rewritten the thing in 17/8. I must admit my heart sank a little at the idea of trying to play a ghost note shuffle in 17/8. It took ages to find something that worked rhythmically. In the meantime, Dave wrote the most amazing ethereal intro.

All the while Dan gave no hint of complaint that his initial tune was being pulled in all sorts of directions by his band mates and got on with the business of making the bassline work, which he plays to perfection on this track.

This was the first track we put down in the studio session. It’s such a joyous piece of music and it felt like we were putting a flag in the soil right at the start. This album is about many things: friendship, beauty, nature; but running through all of it is joy.
